New opportunities for schools

A great group of youth-oriented volunteers has coalesced around this year's Wooden Boat Challenge. This is creating interesting opportunities for schools.

  1. This year, all youth teams are 100% sponsored. Any youth can participate for free!
  2. Tom Segura, master furniture maker and four-time winner of the Wooden Boat Challenge, has offered to captain a youth team. This is an excellent opportunity to learn woodworking from one of the best. You can see some of Tom’s work at www.segurafurniture.blogspot.com.
  3. There’s room for at least four more youth teams. If you would like to register a team, you can now signup online.

  4. Speaking of which, if you're reading this then you probably have noticed that the Wooden Boat Challenge has launched its brand new website. It’s still a work in progress, but it already sports pictures from previous years, some great videos, as well as online forms for team and sponsorship signups. Much more is planned, so be sure to bookmark the URL, www.woodenboatchallenge.org.

  5. Last but not least… we would be happy to come speak at your school. Starr can answer any questions about the event. Tom can bring an example boat and demonstrate how he builds a winning (and safe!) boat within three hours. If you would like a Wooden Boat Challenge presentation at your school, please contact Starr.
See you on April 11!
